Denise Grier wrote in Leadership Upturn that the best piece of advise he had ever received from a boss was that he was only as good as his weakest employee. This reminds me of all the complains I’ve received from other departments in my workplace. It doesn’t really matter how good my best employee is. All it takes is just a simple mistake from the weaker ones to get all of us into hot soup.

This reflects yet another important role of a leader, i.e. Coaching. Effective coaching brings out the best aptitude and attitude. Without proper coaching, the team is only as good as the weakest link.
